The Weeping Willow will most likely be available in The Pressroom on Sunday, June 15, 2025, or at least I hope so!. Anyways, let’s get to the point! Chapter 1 is finally here!!! And if you haven’t read the previous sneak peek yet, I recommend it! You can find it here. This is a hunger games fan fiction based off of the Weeping Willow film created by Abundant house films in 2014. I would like to give credit to them for inspiring me to make this book. It takes place in the 52nd Hunger Games, following the main stories of Tristan and Willow, brother and sister, in the Hunger Games, together. I recommend watching the 20-minute movie, just after reading the book. I made sure to be more descriptive and add a character or two, to expand the creativity of this book.
I really hope this chapter is good enough to meet your standards. This chapter is mainly more of an introduction to the story. It also includes the character, Effie Trinket, if you are familiar with her. Make sure to subscribe to The Forest Of Legends, and diverse our community!
This story was not enhanced by AI. It is all my own work, plus the quotes of characters in the movie.

Chapter 1
The sunlight gleams through the windows of a little log cabin, sitting in the “capitol” city of District 7. Today, it is going to be District 7’s 52nd Reaping. Will they take home a victor? Or is fate in their hands.
A little girl is sitting in one of two chairs surrounding the table. Both chairs are flat and wooden. It’s one of the few things this family gets for being responsible enough to help provide for the lumber industry, a big part of what the capitol wants, but they are often overlooked, as that District 7 is ignored, as they have very few victors, unlike District 1, 2, and 4, which have had consecutive years of tributes from their districts winning.
The girl holds her locket that was given to her by her parents, who tragically died in a lumber accident years back. A single tear comes from her cheek. She knows it’s reaping day, and since she has now turned twelve, she is now officially eligible to be reaped.
This girls father named her Willow, after his favourite tree. He would never cut those trees down. Ever. When he first cut one down, it would for sure be his last, as that is the tree that was involved in the accident. The locket gleams in the sunlight that comes from the open window. Sunlight. Perhaps the biggest gift of all for mankind and Earth alike.
Just then, the brother, Tristan walks in the room, after an unsuccessful trading attempt at the local black market. They pop up everywhere, but none of them has lasted as long as the one near town square.
“You’re ready”, says Tristan
“I wish mom and dad were here”, says Willow in a scared voice.
The room is filled with silence for a moment. Neither of them know how to respond, as they haven’t brought up their parents in months. Just then, Willow hugs Tristan, hoping that it won’t be the last. Tristan knows that too, and he hugs her back.
“It’s going to be okay”, responds Tristan, finally.

As they head to town square, worried faces are all around families, worried that it’s their kids turn to be reaped. Some have just turned twelve, others are already eighteen. Tristan then recognizes his friend, Maple. Maple just started last year in the lumber industry, like him, but she has parents, unlike Tristan. They have talked about it time to time, they just don’t go into detail.
Just then, Tristan notices how many people are wearing lumberjack shirts (which are usually plaid), and is confused on why they are wearing those shirts, even though on reaping days, they don’t have to work. Or, Tristan thought, they could be wearing outfits on Reaping day. They were just wearing plain white shirts with a nice collar.
“I hadn’t thought of that”, mumbles Tristan out loud.
When they arrive at town square, most of the people had already gathered. Just as they take their places, on opposite sides of the town square, Effie Trinket’s voice booms out of the microphone, loud and clear, with a capitol accent to it.
“Happy Hunger Games”, she says
They both know, like the rest of the people in district 7, that the Hunger Games is not a time for happiness, or anything uplifting at all, unless your in the capitol.
Both of them stare at each other, wanting to flee the reaping, however knowing they will be killed immediately. They still want to look out for each other, especially Tristan. He will always do what’s right to save her sister, the only one he truly cares about, that’s still alive. Even if Maple was drawn, he wouldn’t step forward. He smiles knowingly, knowing that Willow won’t be reaped. After all, her name was only put in their once, as they already had enough food.
Just then, Effie Trinket scoops her hand into the girl’s bowl. Willow is breathing heavily now. The anxiety has gotten to her.
As soon as she pulls the name out, she rips open the paper, and reads the name out loud, for everyone.
“The female tribute from District 7 is… “Willow Tarris”
